Databases for Historians

Designing DatabaseOnline training in the concepts and skills needed to build and use databases for historical research.

Part of the University of London’s School of Advanced Study’s PORT (Postgraduate Online Research Training) collection, Databases for Historians has two components:

  • Designing Databases for Historical Research is a free handbook which provides an overview of important concepts – both historical in nature and in terms of database design – that the historian will need to consider before embarking upon designing a database.
  • Building and Using Databases for Historical Research is an online tutorial designed to equip researchers with the skills required to build and utilise a relational database suited to historical research. A charge is payable for this.
